The Low Down
The crimes committed here aren’t only of the pun variety—the name plays on both the menu’s bun-and-beef offerings as well as the space’s former tenant, the offices of felonious bankers Marcus Garfunkel and Max Tauster.
The brainchild of Tim Gashi (Rocky Slims) and Val Gjekaj (Arte) the burger joint features a menu with jaw-testing creations such as the Lower East Sider, a six-ounce patty topped with pastrami, Gruyère cheese and Brooklyn Brine pickles on a toasted rye roll.
After a meat-sweats–inducing meal, diners can access the restaurant’s sister speakeasy, Garfunkel’s, via a working bank-vault door for grub-soaking cocktails.
